Celebrating 50 Years: A Unique Gift for Our Valued Customers
As we mark 50 years in the aluminium industry, we wanted to express our gratitude to our loyal customers who have supported us throughout this journey. In this blog, we'll take you behind the scenes of our exclusive customer gift design process, showcasing our Chip Aik Ideation Method.
Moving beyond conventional corporate gifts such as power banks and notebooks, we wanted to design a unique and practical token that showcases our aluminium expertise.
From Concept to Reality
We began by brainstorming gift ideas that could be made from aluminium extrusions. A phone stand in the shape of our logo caught our attention, and we decided to run with it.
DATA - Concept Ideation
A phone stand in the shape of a “A” caught our eye, and we thought: “Hey, why don’t design a phone stand with the shape of our logo?” Our team gathered all the different types of phone stands and phone models available in the office and studied the size, shape, and features.
After which, we created a 2D design which could accommodate various mobile phones and tablets.
DISCOVER – Drawing Stage
The 2D design was refined across multiple aspects, assessing the base for stability while maintaining the iconic Chip Aik logo shape. The team also considered the need for phones with thicker phone covers, and to leave a gap for phone charger wire clearance. Through multiple design iterations, we achieved the ideal balance of form and function.
After this, we created a 3D model to visual the final product from all angles, including placement of our 50th Year Anniversary logo and taglines.
DESIGN - Assess Finishing Options
Different finishing options were explored, including powder coating and anodising (with and without sandblast).
Finally, we chose anodising with sandblasting for a refined, elegant finish. This ensures every detail in the souvenir is readable and long-lasting.
Red was chosen as it was our corporate colour, and gold represents quality and excellence. Together they represent bold, innovative and excellence – what our Chip Aik brand stands for.
Once mock-up has been approved, we moved on to the next step – mass production of our custom- designed gift!
